Passengers who experience flight delays on any Chinese mainland airline will be able to take the next available flight on any carrier during the Olympic period, the Beijing Times has reported. The new rule has been brought in by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in an attempt to ease passengers’ travel arrangements during the Games. The new policy will be introduced across China.
Other special measures the CAAC is introducing include passengers being given free food and accommodation if their flight is delayed. Previously airlines have not been responsible for compensating passengers for delays of less than four hours, or for delays resulting from poor weather conditions. Airlines were obliged to help delayed passengers find hotel accommodation, but did not have to pay for it.
The measures are the latest example of China’s attempt to put of the best possible service for its Olympic guests.
