Songshan Mountain, one of five sacred mountains in China, failed in its bid to achieve UNESCO World Heritage status, Xinhua reported. Confusion caused by dual application of mountain was cited as the main reason for the decision.
“The great value of the historical architecture complex in Songshan Mountain is beyond question,” Shi Yongxin, Abbot of mountain’s Shaolin Temple, was reported saying, “but there were some mistakes in the application procedures.”
