China plans to start building a regional airport near Mount Jiuhua, one of the country’s four most renowned Buddhist mountains. According to a Xinhua report, construction on the CNY734 million (US$108 million) project will begin in Anhui province later this year. It will take two and a half years to build.
The airport, near the city of Chizhou, 20km from Mount Jiuhua, will be able to handle Boeing 737s and similar sized aircraft, the report stated.
