The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) plans to re-route flights departing from cities in the northeast of the country in an effort to ease congestion in the skies above Beijing.
From 28 August 2013, services from cities like Shenyang, Harbin and Dalian will have to detour around Beijing, in an effort to clear the Chinese capital’s airspace and improve punctuality at Beijing Capital International Airport.
According to the announcement by the CAAC, northeast flights bound for cities south and west China, including Xi’an, Zhengzhou, Changsha and Taiyuan should avoid flying over Beijing. Flights to western destinations will instead pass over the grasslands of Inner Mongolia, while services to the south will fly over the Bohai and Yellow Seas.
The adjustment will involve 21 routes, removing approximately 60 flights per day from Beijing’s airspace.
