China has nearly finished reconstructing an airport famed as the home of the “Flying Tigers” – American pilots who fought for China during World War II, the Shanghai Daily has reported. The CNY433 million (US$58 million) redevelopment will see the air base, in China’s southern Yunnan province, transformed into a modern airport with a proposed annual passenger-handling capacity of 480,000.
The airport is scheduled to open for commercial flights by 1 May, the report said.
