Asia’s biggest airline China Southern has celebrated the first full year of its London to Guangzhou service by hosting a dinner with travel partners and discussing its plans for the 72-hour visa free transit programme.
The carrier, which started daily flights between the countries on 17 June, handled 86.5 million passengers in 2012 across 173 destinations.
The line also outlined expansion plans to its current fleet of 501 aircraft, which included Dreamliners being added to the London – Guangzhou route and Airbus A380s on the Guangzhou to Sydney and Los Angeles services.
The company also has plans to utilise the new 72-hour visa free transit scheme, which allows passengers using China Southern’s Guangzhou hub to travel within its Province for 72-hours before travelling to their final destination – without needing to obtain a Chinese Visa.
As a result of the scheme, which is open in 45 countries, China Southern is offering a discount on sightseeing tours, hotel rates and local attractions in order to boost local tourism.
