China tiger photos ‘fake’
Photographs allegedly taken of a rare South China tiger in the wild were fakes, Xinhua have reported officials in Shaanxi Province as saying. The photographer, farmer Zhou Zhenglong, has been arrested on suspicion of fraud; he had been paid a CNY20,000 (US$2,915) reward for the pictures. In is unknown whether the South China, or Xiamen tiger, still exists in the wild; the last study was conducted 12 years ago when numbers were estimated as between 30 and 80.
