Beijing’s Capital Airlines will create the first direct connection between China and Portugal next year.
An agreement signed on 9 October 2016 between Capital Airlines and the Portugal National Tourism Authority, and witnessed by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Portugal’s Prime Minister António Costa, will lead to the launch of scheduled flights between Beijing and Lisbon in June 2017.
Capital Airlines, which forms part of the HNA Group, will operate the route non-stop using its two-class, 211-seat Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Flights will continue onwards between Beijing and Hangzhou.
Capital Airlines started flying to Europe last year, and also operates services to another Iberian capital, Madrid. It is planning to expand its route map even further in future, linking Beijing with other capital cities around the world.
