China tourism revenues surge 20% in 2010

China earned CNY1.55 trillion (US$234 billion) in tourism revenues last year – an increase of 20% compared to 2009. Xinhua reported the country’s National Tourism Administration (CNTA) as saying that domestic trips increased 11% to 2.1 billion, generating CNY1.25 trillion in revenues, while inbound trips rose 6% year-on-year to 134 million, producing revenues of US$45 billion. In terms of outbound travel, 114 million Chinese travelled overseas last year, up 20.5% year-on-year, according to the Bureau of Exit-Entry Administration.
