China warns ticket touts
As China unveiled tickets for the Beijing Olympic Games, it has warned against touting when domestic sales start from May 5 till June 9.
The designs, which feature the Bird’s Nest Stadium, have been kept a secret until yesterday, Bernama reported.
“The ticket has various anti-counterfeiting features which make it rather difficult to re-create. We are strongly opposed to selling of tickets for profit, China’s laws forbid that,” Zhu Yan, ticketing director of the Beijing Olympic Games Organising Committee, was quoted saying.
Bernama said local media had reported last month that ticket scalpers would be severely punished and might end up in labour camps.
Some 1.38 million tickets would be released in the third phase for 16 sports via selected Bank of China outlets and online. Tickets for the first two phases were sold by lottery draw.
