A new Chinese passenger aircraft embarked on its first ever commercial flight on Tuesday (28 June).
The ARJ21, a twin-engined regional jet manufactured by Shanghai-based COMAC, has officially entered service with Chengdu Airlines.
The Sichuan-based carrier was the launch customer for the aircraft, having received its first ARJ21 earlier this year. Following a delayed launch, the aircraft will now be deployed on the route connecting Chengdu with Shanghai’s Hongqiao International Airport, running three times a week.
Chengdu Airlines has ordered 30 ARJ21s from COMAC. Other customers for the new aircraft include domestic companies such as Shandong Airlines, Henan Airlines and Joy Air, and international carriers including Myanmar National Airlines and Lao Airlines.
The ARJ21 is able to accommodate between 78 and 90 passengers, and has a maximum range of 3,700km.
