New Chinese passenger carrier, Ruili Airlines, has placed an order for new aircraft.
The airline was given permission to launch flights from Kunming earlier this year, and has now started its expansion with an agreement to buy 18 narrow-body aircraft from Boeing and airberlin.
This year, Ruili expects to take delivery of eight Boeing 737-700s and six B737-800s from the US planemaker, plus two B737-700s from airberlin. It then expects to receive another two B737-800s from the German airline next year. It will operate the aircraft from Kunming’s Changshui International Airport
“Ruili Airlines is trying to launch commercial service during the Spring Festival 2014, or no later than the… New Year water sprinkling festival [in April 2014],” said Dong Lecheng, CEO of Jingcheng Group, which owns Ruili Airlines. “Ruili Airlines endeavours to own a fleet of 45 planes by 2020.”
In May 2013, Ruili Airlines became the first new Chinese airline given permission to launch since 2007, following a relaxation of market entry rules by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
