A Chinese travel agency guide locked a group of Taiwanese tourists in a tour bus after they refused to patronise a shop, a report said.
Taiwan News said Sun Jianping, President of the Suzhou Travel Agency, later publicly apologised to the tourists.
In his statement, Sun had said the travel agency had disciplined the guide and suggested to governing authorities that his license be revoked. He was quoted saying that he would be willing to compensate the Taiwanese tourists for their losses.
The report said the group of retired teachers travelling in Suzhou had been forced by the tour guide to buy some products in a specific shop. When they refused to do so, the guide locked everyone in the tour bus, turned off the air conditioner and didn’t even allow toilet breaks.
The report also quoted the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait Chairman, Chen Yunlin, as saying that there would be a “harmonious and pleasant trip” for Taiwanese heading to China.
