An aircraft leasing company in China has said it is planning to target India, following the potential dawn of a new era of Sino-Indian relations.
Following the recent three-day visit of India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to China, the China Aircraft Leasing Group (CALC) said it expects to see “enhanced air connectivity between China and India… and with their East Asian neighbours”.
And the company said that to maximise the opportunities this offers, CALC will provide services to airlines to help them “capture the market opportunities arising from the enhanced connectivity between the two countries”, including leasing agreements for new aircraft and a range of “value-added services”
CALC has already established a presence in India; in 2014, the company entered into leasing agreements with Air India for five new Airbus A320 aircraft. This marked CALC’s first overseas deal, and the first of the five aircraft was delivered during Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj’s trip to China in February 2015.
And with the company having placed a large order for 100 A320 series aircraft in December 2014, it is now in a position to start expanding its leasing operations in India.
