Chinese carriers cut flights
China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines plan to cut the number of international flights due to spiralling fuel costs, at least temporarily, the carriers were quoted saying.
AFP quoted a spokesman for China Southern as saying: “We are just cutting a number of flights temporarily rather than halting service on these routes.”
AFP quoting a Xinhua report said the airline would cut flights from Guangzhou to Ho Chi Minh and Angkor from June to September.
The company would also offer fewer flights between Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and Singapore during that same period and services between Beijing and Seoul would also be affected, the report said.
The report said China Eastern Airlines also had similar plans but company spokesman Luo Zhuping was quoted saying that smaller than expected demand was also a factor in reducing the number of flights on some routes.
