Chinese LCC sets up base in Osaka

Shanghai-based Spring Airlines has announced plans to set up an operating base at Osaka‘s Kansai International Airport.
The move would make Osaka the low-cost carrier’s first base outside of China.
Spring already operates scheduled services to Osaka from six Chinese cities: Shanghai, Chongqing, Tianjin, Wuhan, Qingdao and Lanzhou. And at the end of March this year it will add four more routes to the Japanese city, from Chengdu, Xi’an, Zhengzhou and Quanzhou.
Using Osaka as an operating hub, Spring now plans to base several Airbus A320 aircraft at Kansai and expand its connections from the airport to 20 Chinese cities within five years. This will see Spring operate 100 weekly flights between Osaka and Chinese cities by 2020.
Spring Airlines will become the third low-cost carrier with an operating base at Kansai Airport, following Peach Aviation and Jetstar Japan.
As well as Osaka, Spring also operates flights to the Japanese cities of Ibaraki, Takamatsu, Saga and Sapporo.
