China’s state-owned train manufacturer, CNR Corp will recall 54 high-speed trains used on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail line over safety concerns, the company said in a statement today. Xinhua reported the statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange as saying that the recall involves its CRH380BL high-speed trains. Beijing-based CNR Corp had previously been ordered to suspend delivery of trains, which were found to have a faulty automatic protection system. The system has been cited in a series of power failures affecting trains running on the Beijing-Shanghai line last month.
The recall is the latest in a series of problems for China’s high-speed rail industry. Yesterday authorities ordered a major safety review of high-speed network, and cut the operating speed of services on new lines. The move follows the fatal crash of two high-speed trains in Zhejiang province in late July, which killed 40 passengers.
