Travelodge has been off-loading several hotels as part of its financial restructure, with 49 to be moved to a different model.
The budget hotel group has signed several franchise agreements which will see seven owned by motorway service area operator Moto and 13 others handled by individual operators, although they will all continue to be operated and managed by Travelodge.
In addition 18 of its hotels will switch to names such as Best Western, ibis and Metro Inns with current bookings to be transferred to another Travelodge hotel or honoured by the new operators. Others will be converted into student accommodation, events and meetings space and staff accommodation for JCB.
Eleven hotels are yet to know their future.
“We were always confident that we would secure a future for these properties and the deals that have taken place just demonstrate the huge strength of the Travelodge brand and the success of our operations model,” said Grant Hearn, CEO of Travelodge.
“Going forward, we are very excited to continue to grow our business, strengthen our product offering and make Travelodge the best value hotel chain in the UK,” he added.
The hotel group is currently rolling out a new room design, which will be in half of its rooms by the end of 2013 and in 90% of its hotels by autumn 2014.
