The Costa Atlantica cruise ship has made its maiden call in Shanghai.
The cruise ship arrived in the Chinese city on Thursday (4 July 2013), where its 2,500+ passengers were greeted by the several dignitaries, including the ship’s godmother, Diana Xu, Miss Universe China 2012.
The arrival of the Costa Atlantica means that the European cruise company has effectively doubled its capacity in China. The 2,680-passenger capacity ship joins the 2,394-passenger Costa Victoria, which has been deployed in China since May 2012.
With this dual positioning, Costa will be offering a total of 99 Asian cruises in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan in 2013. Costa Atlantica will also be the first ship to operate on an ‘Around-the-World’ cruise for Chinese passengers, departing Shanghai on 22 March 2014 for an 83-day voyage.
