Costa Cruises has announced the resumption of its Japan itineraries from August to October 2011. The 1,680-passenger capacity Costa Classica, which is home-ported in Shanghai, will operate a total of 12 trips to Japan and South Korea during the period, including five-day cruises from Shanghai to Fukuoka and Jeju from 26 August to 23 September, a seven-day cruise from Shanghai to Busan, Fukuoka, Kagoshima on 1 October, and a six-day cruise from Shanghai to Fukuoka, Nagasaki and Jeju on 7 October. In addition, Costa is offering embarkation from Fukuoka for Japanese passengers, with five-day cruises from Fukuoka to Jeju and Shanghai from 28 August to 21 September, and three-day itineraries from Fukuoka to Jeju and Shanghai on 25 and 29 September.
In 2012, the Italian cruise line is expanding its operations in the region, with the first deployment of its 2,394-passenger Costa Victoria (pictured) to the region, replacing the Costa Classica. The new liner will sail to a range of new destinations in Japan, including Hososhima/Miyazaki, Wakayama, Osaka, Yokohama and Tokyo.
“This expansion plan demonstrates Costa Cruises’ commitment toward the region and in particular toward Japan both as an appreciated destination as well as a source market,” said Dario Rustico, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Costa Cruises’ Asia Pacific operations.
