Costa Cruises has confirmed that it will launch its inaugural world cruise from Asia next year.
The 2,680-passenger capacity Costa Atlantica will set sail from Shanghai on 1 March 2015 for an 86-day cruise, visiting 28 destinations in 18 countries on five continents.
Onboard facilities will be tailored to Asian tourists, including Chinese-speaking crew members and Asian cuisine in the restaurants.
“Our aim is to further develop the Asia Pacific cruise market,” said Buhdy Bok, Costa’s senior vice president Pacific Asia & China.
“The 86-day ‘Around-the-World’ tour on Costa Atlantica was developed with the Greater China audience in mind. Costa Cruises has been committed to the Asian market throughout the years and our experience in serving the Hong Kong market has shown that Hong Kong people have a great love for the joie de vivre of travelling and exploring exotic locations.
“We are confident that the 86-day Around-the-World tour on Costa Atlantica will satisfy their infinite passion for travelling,” Bok added.
Guests can choose to depart from Shanghai or Hong Kong for an 86- or 83-day journey. In Asia, the liner will sail from Shanghai to Hong Kong, then onwards to Ho Chi Minh City and Vung Tau in Vietnam, Phuket in Thailand, and onwards to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
It will then move through the Suez Canal and into the Mediterranean Sea, before crossing the Atlantic to New York. After sailing to the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal, it will then visit California before traversing the Pacific, via Hawaii, to Japan. The Costa Atlantica will finally arrive back in Shanghai on 26 May 2015.
During the trip, Costa will offer a series of themed entertainment programmes, port visits and overnight stays.
