Jet Airways has received approval from India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to appoint Cramer Ball as its new chief executive officer.
The 47-year-old Australian national is a certified accountant and has 20 years of aviation experience, including roles at Etihad Airways, Gulf Air and Qantas. Most recently, he served as CEO of Air Seychelles.
Ball was initially named as CEO of Jet in June 2014, but MoCA’s authorisation has made the appointment official. He will now lead company as it embarks on a three-year business plan to reshape the airline.
“We need a dynamic chief executive with in depth knowledge of and experience in the airline industry to lead us through the next phase of our development, which encompasses a bold three-year business plan to return to profitability,” said Jet’s chairman, Naresh Goyal.
“Thus, I am delighted to have Cramer aboard at the helm of our new management team, as he possess the right credentials and all the requisite experience in airline management, and the skills required to take Jet Airways forward into a new growth paradigm.”
Ball added that he wants Jet to “transform the concept of air travel in India and serve as a proud ambassador of India throughout the world”.
“The challenges ahead are plentiful, but so are the opportunities. I am confident that the stringent measures we are putting in place will develop Jet Airways into a market leader that offers immense value and quality to domestic and international guests, supports the economic development of India and the other countries it serves, and achieves sustainable profitability. The three-year plan has already resulted in demonstrable progress and Jet Airways’ financial foundation is much healthier today. As we venture deeper into the turnaround, we are committed to accelerating the results,” Ball said.
