Crimea is ready to receive six million tourists this year despite its recent troubles, the region’s tourism minister has said.
Tourism minister Yelena Yurchenko said foreign tourists can visit the region visa-free from this year as it encourages more cruise tourism.
The scheme will allow tourists to visit the region without a visa for up to 12 days, or for cruise passengers a 72-hour visa-free stay will be granted.
Russia’s ITAR-TASS News Agency reported Yurchenko saying tourists should not believe reports that tanks are surrounding the area and urged the area as safe.
Crimea was reclaimed by Russia from Ukraine in March after protests which killed 100 people. The FCO still advises against all travel to Crimea.
