Ctrip International has spent almost US$500 million on a new state-of-the-art office complex in Shanghai.
The Chinese travel company confirmed on Monday that it has purchased more than 100,000m² of floor space in the brand new Sky Soho development, which is currently under construction near Shanghai’s Hongqiao International Airport.
The company paid CNY3.05 billion (US$496 million) for the new premises.
Ctrip said the new premises were designed “to support the company’s fast-growing business and to enhance operation efficiency in the future”. This will include new on-site facilities for technology development and a business innovation centre.
The move will see Ctrip take up almost a third of the total 342,500m² floorspace available at Sky Soho. Set to be completed this year, the complex is the first Shanghai project for world-famous architect Zaha Hadid. It consists of 12 modern buildings connected by 16 bridges and surrounded by gardens.
