Cunard‘s flagship, Queen Mary 2, will undergo an extensive refurbishment next year, as part of preparations for the company’s 175th anniversary celebrations.
The ship, which launched in 2004, will go into drydock from 27 May to 21 June 2016, for a series of upgrades. These will include the addition of 15 single staterooms, 30 additional Britannia Club Balcony Staterooms and the expansion of the Britannia Club restaurant.
For passengers travelling with their pets, a lamp post and a fire hydrant will be installed on the deck, reserved for dog walking. This was previously a feature of Cunard’s former flagship QE2, and was first introduced onboard Queen Mary 2 at the suggestion of The Duke of Windsor.
“Queen Mary 2 is an icon in the world of luxury ocean travel. A ship that turns heads everywhere she goes, she is the pride of the Cunard fleet and we are committed to ensuring her reputation grows ever stronger,” said Richard Meadows, president of Cunard North America.
“These enhancements are just the beginning of an exciting refurbishment for Queen Mary 2, and we look forward to making more announcements about this impressive refit in the coming months.”
The new onboard accommodation went on sale this week for Queen Mary 2’s 2016 summer sailings.
