David Beckham was in Singapore recently to launch the Sands for Singapore Festival.
The Marina Bay Sands CSR initiative is designed to enable the integrated resort to give something back to the Singapore community, starting with the opportunity for 60 local children from The Guardian Academy and students from Singapore Association for the Deaf affiliated schools to meet the England football legend.
“I have great memories of this city as it was it here that London won the 2012 Olympic bid. Coming back and seeing these kids today has been an inspiration to me. I’m honoured to be invited to the Marina Bay Sands and to launch this community sports initiative. This is a beautiful hotel, and Singapore is one of the most forward looking cities in the world,” said Beckham.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder also contributed to the Sands for Singapore Festival, which takes place from 16-18 August, by signing a football shirt that be auctioned for charity.
“In the spirit of the Sands for Singapore festival, Marina Bay Sands will be putting in its best efforts forward to give back to the local community in meaningful ways. It is an honour to have David Beckham here to support our corporate social responsibility initiatives. We hope this is an invaluable experience that these students will take with them into the future,” said George Tanasijevich, president & CEO of Marina Bay Sands.
Retailers at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands have also joined the CSR initiative, donating items that will also be included in the auction. All money raised from the event will go to local charity, Art Outreach.
