Four people died and several others were injured when a bomb exploded on a packed bus in Manila’s central business district area of Makati yesterday. Reports suggest that the device may have been placed under a seat by two men, who the driver said were acting suspiciously and alighted the bus shortly before the blast. Philippines President, Benigno Aquino, was reported saying that it had been warned last year that a “Muslim secessionist group” was planning on carrying out attacks, but that there was no indication as to where or when they would occur. Channel NewsAsia reported that several countries, including the US, UK and Australia, upgraded their travel advisories to the Philippines in November 2010, saying that terrorist attacks were likely.
