Delhi-Kathmandu route set for fare war

Budget carrier IndiGo could start services to Kathmandu from August if it receives the approval from Nepal.If approved, domain-b.com said IndiGo would likely spark off a fare war on the route by dropping fares to Nepali Rs5,000 one-way. Current fares on budget airlines stand at about Nepali Rs7,000. The report said though geographically very close, high fares on the India-Nepal sector have acted deterred tourists.The report said the route is now served by Jet Airways, Air India and Spicejet.IndiGo would use a new 180-seat Airbus 320 to service the route. According to domain-b.com, IndiGo is understood to have received clearances from Indian civil aviation authorities for the New Delhi-Kathmandu service.Earlier, the airline had announced it would start international operations from September, with flights to Dubai, Singapore and Bangkok. Nepal celebrates 2011 as its tourism year and has set a target of drawing one million tourists.
