Ancient unprotected monuments that have been vandalised in the guise of religion will soon be taken up for conservation and legal protection by the Delhi government, Times of India said. This would happen in another few weeks. Delhi government’s archaeology department and INTACH Delhi Chapter have identified a number of monuments in Mehrauli area that would be conserved. The report said the identified monuments were part of phase II of the government’s collaboration with conservation body INTACH to protect and conserve 92 heritage structures in the capital. It said some other monuments likely to be taken up for restoration are Baradari at Sadhna Enclave, three gateways at Badarpur and Dara Shikoh library building where a museum was being planned in the near future.
