Indira Gandhi International Airport’s new Domestic Departure Terminal 1D is set to open its gates for passengers soon, the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation reported. The modern terminal’s facilities will include eight entry gates from the city side for easy access, 72 check-in desks and 16 self check-in kiosks, a four-level in-line baggage system, eliminating baggage X-ray queues, a spacious security hold area featuring extensive F&B, retail & recreation facilities, and 15 gates for easy bus boarding with 11 bus boarding points. The new facility will cater for the modern-day traveller, with wireless Internet available in the security hold area.
The CEO of Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), BS Shantharaju, commented; “Given the enormous difference between traffic and domestic terminal capacity at IGI Airport, we felt it was extremely important to provide domestic passengers with new facilities which would allow them to travel smoothly and comfortably. A great airport should have a high level of service quality. DIAL is taking every step to ensure that the passengers’ experience at new Terminal and IGI Airport is a smooth one.”
While the exact opening date was not specified, DIAL will communicate information on airlines shifting to the new Terminal and the new route layout at IGI Airport’s domestic terminals through various media channels.
