Disney denies Shanghai park approval
Walt Disney Co. has denied a newspaper report saying the Chinese government has given its approval for the company to build a theme park in Shanghai, according to a Bloomberg report.
The South China Morning Post yesterday cited an unidentified source saying that China’s National Development and Reform Commission has given green light to the long-awaited project, however in a statement emailed to Bloomberg, Disney denied any deal had been done.
“There is no announcement and there is no deal,” Alannah Hall-Smith, Hong Kong-based Disney spokesperson for Asia, said. She added however that China is an “important market” for the entertainment company.
