A flight to any part of the country during the festive season of Diwali is likely to leave a huge dent on travellers pocket, even if tickets are booked a month in advance. The huge demand for tickets and rise in fuel price are two big reasons for the same. The increase in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) has forced most airlines to push up for their fares. This, compounded with the colossal demand for air tickets during the festive season, has the fares soaring, reported the Times of India.
A one-way ticket from Mumbai to Delhi now ranges from US$124-226 (INR6,000-11,000), which is almost double and more than the usual rate of US$61 onwards. A ticket to Jaipur from Mumbai for the weekend just before Diwali costs at least US$164. Depending on the seat availability and the time, the price may be as high as US$391.
Pradip Lulla, Director of Cupid Travels said Diwali was the time when domestic travel picks up. “Domestic travel was lean till bookings for Diwali started. That week, most people visit other cities and hence, the fares rise. During Christmas, the same happens for Goa. So, many have already booked Goa tickets for December. If one has to travel on reasonable fares, one has to book early for festivals,” Lulla was reported saying.
