Dolphins stranded off Philippines
At least 100 dolphins are stranded after beaching themselves in shallow water near Philippine capital Manila, the BBC has reported. Local officials reportedly said the dolphins are calm and swimming slowly, being guided by local fishermen in boats.
“This is an unusual phenomenon,” Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Director, Malcolm Sarmiento, was quoted saying, adding that they could be reacting to a “heat wave or disturbance at sea” such as a possible major underwater earthquake.
