The future of Bangkok’s Don Mueang airport is hanging in the balance as Thailand’s government considers moving all domestic and international operations to Suvarnabhumi, the Bangkok Post reported.
Srisuk Chandrangsu, Chairman of the government’s panel on tourism & aviation promotion, said Don Mueang could cease operation serving regular commercial flights as early as the next quarter.
Don Mueang briefly closed after Suvarnabhumi’s 2006 opening, but reopened in March 2007 to relieve congestion. The north Bangkok hub currently serves as a base for Nok Air and One-Two-Go, and some of Thai Airways’ domestic services.
