A once drug-addicted elephant - which was fed heroin-laced bananas by illegal traders - is returning home after a three-year detox programme in Hainan. Reuter said the four-year-old bull elephant was captured in 2005 in southwest China by traders who used spiked bananas to control him.
After police arrested the traders and freed the elephant, it was confirmed to be suffering from withdrawal symptoms, Reuters quoted Xinhua news agency as saying.
