Dubai Duty Free sales touch US$30.65 million

Dubai Duty Free for its anniversary announced sales which touched AED111.88 million (US$30.65 mn). The new daily record represents a 40% percent increase over last year’s anniversary sales. The division also sourced and offered seven different products sold at 1983 prices on the day.
Colm McLoughlin, executive vice chairman, Dubai Duty Free said: “We began introducing a discount offer across a wide range of merchandise on our 20th anniversary in 2003 and it has become a popular day with travellers. Some travellers even book their flights in order to shop on that day.”
Perfumes were the highest selling category with sales of AED31.2 mn (US$8.5 mn) and representing 27.9% of the total daily sales. Watches and Clocks was the second most popular category with sales of AED25.5 mn (US$7 mn). Cosmetics came in third, with sales of AED14.2 mn (US$3.9 mn). Liquor followed by Cigarettes. Other notable increases were seen in Confectionery, which rose by 33% to AED4.5 mn (US$1.2 mn) and Delicatessen, which recorded AED2.3 mn (US$619,000). Departure sales has recorded US$28.3 mn representing 92.3% of total anniversary sales.
