‘Dubai Heritage & Touristic Season’ commences

The inaugural ‘Dubai Heritage & Touristic Season,’ organised under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has commenced. The event is aimed at bringing the city’s heritage to the forefront with an extensive array of activities at Al Shindagah Historical Neighbourhood.
The inaugural season will run from October 2013 to April 2014, coinciding with several heritage events and activities during the course of the year.
Saeed Al Nabouda, acting director general, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: “The launch of the first ‘Dubai Heritage & Touristic Season’ aims to to establish Dubai as the leading tourist destination. The Authority has established a task force to create heritage programmes that emphasise three critical elements – coastal life, creek life, and mountain life.”
The activities will also showcase essence of the Arabian souk; traditional weddings; and games, in addition to a line-up of authentic Emirati cuisine from all three geographic regions. The initiative will also feature an exhibit including replicas of boats, insights on pearl diving and Arabian hospitality, and competitive fishing.
