Dubai International Airport capacity surpasses JFK

Capacityat Dubai International Airport has surpassed that of New York’s John F. Kennedy(JFK) International Airport for the first time, according to aviationintelligence provider OAG.
Inits monthly Frequency and Capacity Trend Statistics (FACTS) report, OAG reportsstrong air service growth to the Middle East, increasing 11% overall inSeptember.
“DubaiInternational Airport (DXB) is a strong contributor to that growth, increasing14% in seat capacity, year over year,” the report said.
Septemberseat capacity and frequency in the Middle East increased 11% both within and toand from the region.
“Totalseat capacity to and from the region increased to 11.65 million, from 10.5million a year ago; and the total number of seats available within the regiongrew to 7.02 million from 6.31 million,” said OAG.
DubaiGovernment has invested more than AED 15 billion to expand the capacity atDubai International Airport, which will eventually increase passenger handlingcapacity to 80 million. The airport, which opened Emirates Terminal 3 inOctober 2008, will open the fourth terminal in 2012.
