Dubai top dog in global hotel development study

A new report published by German hotel industry database tophotelprojects.com has declared Dubai the number one destination in terms of new hotel projects, with 97 properties boasting 35,154 rooms currently in the pipeline.”Despite the credit crunch the hotel development business in the United Arab Emirates keeps doing well,” the report stated. “For example, the amazing ‘Dubailand’ project developed by Tatweer / Dubai Holding will be realised with several large theme and event-oriented hotels. With a new, large international hub for long-distance flights, Dubai expects increasing numbers of business travellers and leisure guests.”Abu Dhabi came in second on the list with 66 hotels and 21,572 rooms in the pipeline, followed by Berlin with 49 hotels/9,819 rooms, New York City with 43 hotels/9,928 rooms, while Moscow rounded out the top five with 32 hotels/7,198 rooms.Other notable inclusions on the top 10 list include Marrakech at number six (24 hotels/6,384 rooms), Mecca at number nine (14 hotels/6,988 rooms) and Ras Al-Khaimah in 10th spot (14 hotels/4,607 rooms).
