Dusit targets Middle East with new joint venture

Dusit International has taken a major step into the Middle East hotel sector with the signing of a new joint venture in Saudi Arabia.

The Bangkok-based company, which has operated hotels in the Middle East for more than a decade, has now teamed up with Dyar Hotels & Resorts to create a new hospitality management company focusing on the Gulf region.

The new hotels will operate under Dusit’s existing brands, and the partnership launches with an initial pipeline of three properties – two in Saudi Arabia and one in Qatar.

Dusit Thani and dusitD2 hotels will be launched in the Saudi city of Jeddah, while the dusitD2 brand will make its debut in the Qatari capital, Doha. And Dusit revealed it is in negotiations for a further five properties in the Saudi holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.

“We have been looking for a way to work within the Kingdom [of Saudi Arabia] for some time,” said Chanin Donavanik, managing director & CEO of Dusit International.

“We are proud to partner now with Dyar Hotels & Resorts; their local expertise and decades of experience will be invaluable to the success of Dusit within Saudi Arabia, and we are confident the alliance of an international hotel chain with the knowledge, relationships and distribution channels of a regional operator will provide owners with a compelling proposition.”

The new partnership marks the latest stage in Dusit’s international expansion. In 2013, the company signed a joint venture in China to create Dusit Fudu Hotels & Resorts, which is expected to grow to a portfolio of at least 15 hotels in mainland China by 2017. The company has also recently launched its first hotels in Kenya and the US, and plans to debut on the Pacific island of Guam later this year.

Currently Dusit operates four hotels in the Gulf region, including three in Dubai and one in Abu Dhabi.
