easyJet has announced it will add six new routes from Edinburgh Airport in its latest expansion plans.
Flights from the Scottish airport to Berlin, Hamburg, Prague, Copenhagen, Reykjavik and Dubrovnik will be on the new schedule.
“These new easyJet routes are also a major boost to our tourism sector, which is worth £11 billion to our economy and employs 270,000 people. Attracting more direct flights to and from Scotland helps deliver cheaper fares for the public and reduces the need for extra connecting flights through London,” said Nicola Sturgeon, deputy first minister.
The news comes as Edinburgh saw a 2.2% drop in passengers this September compared to last year. Its flights into Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport and onward connections have helped boost international passenger numbers with decreased domestic travel denting the figures.
