Eco-friendly Element hits new heights in Southeast Asia

Element, the eco-friendly hotel brand created by Starwood, will make its Southeast Asian debut next year.
Marriott International, which now operates the brand, has finalised a management agreement for the new-build Element Kuala Lumpur, which is set to open its doors in March 2017.
Located within the 275-metre-tall Ilham Tower, which has been designed by Norman Foster’s company, it will become the highest hotel in Malaysia. It will feature 252 rooms, ranging from studios to three-bedroom suites.
“Element is experiencing tremendous growth momentum, fuelled by strong demand from consumers who are increasingly interested in environmentally-friendly practices and sustainable living,” said Nelli Yong, Marriott’s vice president of brand management for Asia Pacific. “Element offers travellers a fresh interpretation of the traditional hotel experience with natural light, modern design, healthy options and eco-minded sensibilities.”
In line with its eco-friendly theme, Element Kuala Lumpur will feature “low-flow” showerheads, LED lighting, electric-vehicle charging stations and filtered water. The hotel will also offer complimentary bicycle hire, a restaurant focusing on healthy food, a 24-hour fitness centre, spa and indoor swimming pool, plus 162m² of meeting space.
Element made its Asian debut in Suzhou in 2015, and is planning to launch in multiple destinations across the region, including Bali, Sanya and Tianjin. Globally, the brand is on course to triple its portfolio by the end of 2017.
