Emirates expands Sri Lanka, Maldives offerings

Emirates has stepped up its presence in South Asia with additional services to Colombo and the Maldives, Gulf News has reported. Emirates will add four flights to Colombo and five to the Maldives, bringing its total frequency to 18 flights per week to Sri Lanka and 14 flights per week to the Maldives. The carrier will use an Airbus A330 aircraft to operate on a circular route, Dubai-Maldives-Colombo-Dubai, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. In addition, the carrier will introduce an additional direct connection between Dubai and Colombo every Friday and extra connections between Dubai and Maldives on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ Vice-President of Commercial Operations for West Asia and Indian Ocean, was reported saying that the Sri Lanka expansion was in line with a projected boost in traffic to the island following the end of the civil war.
