Emirates invests in lounges

Emirates Airline has launched its first airport lounge in Africa at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, Gulf News has reported. The new facility brings the airline’s total number of lounges to 23, and is part of a significant investment in the Dubai-based carrier’s global airport lounge development.The carrier has also unveiled plans to introduce three more Emirates Lounges to cater to its first and business class passengers and frequent flyers over the next 12 months. These will be located at Manchester, Birmingham and Hamburg airports. To date Emirates has invested over AED230 million (US$62.6 million) expanding its global lounge network. Including the Johannesburg launch, it has opened four new lounges in quick succession since April; the other three being in Dusseldorf, Mumbai and Beijing.”Together with other value-added services such as Emirates Chauffeur Drive, dedicated check-in counters and priority baggage handling, the Emirates Lounge is an integral part of our premium product,” Gulf News reported Mohammad Mattar, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice-President for Airport Services, as saying.
