Ethiopian Airlines will launch its first flights to Japan this year.

In partnership with All Nippon Airways (ANA), the African carrier will operate three weekly flights between Addis Ababa and Tokyo Narita Airport, via Hong Kong.

Services get underway in April 2015, departing the Ethiopian capital at 2215 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and arriving in Tokyo at 1930 the following day. The return services will leave the Japanese capital every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 2045, getting back into Addis Ababa at 0600 the following day.

Flights will be operated using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

“Japan is the world’s third largest economy and one of the main financial and economic centres with growing investment, trade and tourism ties with Africa. Ethiopian flights to Tokyo will enable the strengthening of investment, trade, tourism and people-to-people ties between Africa and Japan,” said Ethiopian’s CEO, Ato Tewolde Gebremariam.

The Tokyo service continues Ethiopian’s expansion in Northeast Asia. Currently the airline flies to Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Seoul.
