Etihad Airways have announced that it has signed a codeshare with ANA to extend its services to Japan. The codeshare will give Etihad customers the opportunity to fly to two major Japanese destinations, with a third added later this month. In return, Japanese travellers will have more access to Etihad’s network of 60 locations. Frequent flyers can earn and redeem miles on flights from both airlines. James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ Chief Executive, said: “2010 is a big year for Etihad in Japan. As well as launching services to Nagoya in February and Narita in March, this codeshare agreement with ANA will enable us to offer international connections to a broader local market - as we establish ourselves among Japanese travellers.”Under the agreement ANA’s NH code is on the four weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and Nagoya and Etihad’s EY code is used on ANA flights between Nagoya and Sapporo and Fukuoka. The NH code will be extended to the Abu Dhabi to Narita service and on ANA’s domestic services at the end of the month. Etihad already has 20 codeshare agreements including American Airlines, bmi, Qantas and Kuwait Airways.
