Etihad Airways is continuing its rapid expansion in India, with the launch of more flights to the key cities of Mumbai and Delhi.
The Abu Dhabi-based carrier currently operates two daily flights to the two tier one cities, but from next year it will add a third daily service on both routes. The third daily Mumbai flight will commence on 15 February 2015, with the extra Delhi service starting on 1 May 2015.
These additions will coincide with the launch of Etihad’s inaugural daily service to Kolkata on 15 February 2015.
And Etihad will also bring its newest aircraft to India next year, when the airline’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is deployed on the evening flight to Mumbai in January 2015.
“India is expected to become the world’s third largest air passenger market within the next 20 years, and we are focused on providing travellers with the best possible offering into and out of the country, in terms of world-class service, extensive network coverage and multiple flight options each day,” said James Hogan, Etihad’s president & CEO.
“Already in the first half of 2014, more than 620,000 passengers flew on our India services, a substantial increase of 51% year-on-year. The launch of triple-daily services to Mumbai and New Delhi, our most popular routes in India, will allow us to meet growing market demand.”
Along with its Indian partner Jet Airways, Etihad now connects Abu Dhabi to 14 Indian cities, with over 200 return flights each week. This includes five daily flights to Mumbai, four to Delhi, three to Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi, two to Ahmedabad and Kozhikode, and daily flights to Jaipur and Thiruvananthapuram.
Jet is also planning to launch daily services to Abu Dhabi from Goa, Lucknow and Pune.
