Etihad goes double daily to Melbourne

Etihad Airways will continue its expansion in Australia next year with the launch of a second daily flight between Abu Dhabi and Melbourne.

Commencing on 1 August 2015, the additional flight depart the UAE capital at 1030, arriving in Melbourne at 0605 the following day. The return service will leave the Australian city at 1515, getting back into Abu Dhabi at 2320.

This will complement the existing 2220 departure from Abu Dhabi and 2240 return flight from Melbourne.

The additional service will be operated using a 328-seat, three-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with eight seats in first class, 40 in business class and 280 in economy.

“We commenced flights to Melbourne in 2009 and it has since become one of the strongest routes on our network,” said James Hogan, president & CEO of Etihad. “The new schedule will offer our guests a choice of two convenient departure times and seamless connectivity over Abu Dhabi to the Etihad Airways and Etihad Partners’ global networks.

“Significantly, we will be the only airline offering double daily non-stop flights between Melbourne and the UAE, and twice daily one-stop services to a vast network of business and leisure destinations worldwide,” he added.

The second daily service will also offer passengers new one-stop connections to destinations including Edinburgh, Geneva, Madrid and Zurich with Etihad, Stuttgart and Vienna with airberlin, and Venice with Alitalia.

Etihad commenced daily flights between to Melbourne in March 2009 and has since carried more than 900,000 passengers on the route. It also operates double daily flights to Sydney and daily services to Brisbane and Perth.
