Etihad launches second daily Melbourne flight

Etihad Airways’ second daily flight to Melbourne will launch on Saturday.

The new service, EY462, will depart Abu Dhabi at 1030 and touch down in Melbourne at 0605 the next day. The return flight, EY463, will depart Melbourne at 1500, arriving back into the UAE capital at 2305.

This complements the existing 2145 daily departure from Abu Dhabi, and the 2240 return service from Melbourne.

Etihad said the new flight would enable Australian passengers to connect to several European destinations, including Edinburgh, Geneva, Madrid, Zurich, Stuttgart, Vienna, Athens and Brussels.

“Becoming the only airline to offer double daily non-stop flights between Melbourne and the UAE clearly demonstrates our ongoing commitment to Victoria and exponentially increases the attractiveness of our customer proposition,” said Etihad’s president & CEO, James Hogan.

“From August 1 we will connect more international visitors to Melbourne from more markets in the Middle East and Europe and will offer Melbournians the convenience of two daily departures and one-stop connectivity to more than 50 great destinations.”

The new service will be operated by a three-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with eight seats in first class, 40 in business class and 280 in economy.

Following the launch, Etihad will operate a total of 39 direct weekly flights to four Australian cities: Brisbane, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne.
