Etihad to boost New York capacity
Etihad Airways will add extra capacity to New York this summer, with the deployment of a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on the daily service from 1 June 2013.
The new three-class aircraft will offer a total of 328 seats, marking a 36.6% increase in capacity compared with the Airbus A340-500 currently used on the route. The aircraft will be configured with eight seats in first class, 40 in business class and 280 in economy. The aircraft will also come equipped with Wi-Fi.
“We are responding to passenger demand by continuously investing in our fleet and upgrading routes where we see a need for more capacity. The change to the Boeing 777 aircraft, the largest three-class aircraft in our fleet, on the New York route is a demonstration of our commitment to expand our services in the US,” said James Hogan, Etihad’s President & CEO.
“New York was our first point of entry into America and we have seen it continue to grow year-on-year.”
Abu Dhabi-based Etihad currently operates 14 B777-300ER aircraft and will take delivery of a further four this year, enabling the upgrade of the New York route.
